Sixty, Savvy, And Savoring: Eating Well and Laughing Hard
Welcome, fabulous ladies of sixty and beyond! If you've reached this milestone, it's time to celebrate because life just keeps getting better! In this blog post, we'll dive into the delightful journey of eating well and laughing hard, making the most of our golden years.
Eating Well: Fueling the Fun
As we age, our bodies undergo various changes, and nutrition becomes even more crucial. Eating well doesn't have to be boring or restrictive; in fact, it's an opportunity to explore new flavors and culinary adventures. Here are some tips for nourishing your body while still relishing the pleasures of food:
Color Your Plate: Fill your plate with an array of colorful fruits and vegetables. Not only do they look appealing, but they are also packed with essential vitamins and minerals to support your overall health. Although I love to add cheese to my broccoli and whipped cream to my strawberries. In moderation I say OK in my book.
Power of Protein: As we age, protein becomes vital for maintaining muscle mass and bone strength. Incorporate lean proteins like fish, poultry, beans, and nuts into your diet to stay strong and active. With that said, I know that eating beans is very beneficial to my diet. Three years ago I lost 80 pounds on WW and salmon and beans were a HUGE part of my diet.
Hydration Station: Staying hydrated is crucial at any age, but it becomes more important as we get older. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and jazz it up with herbal teas or infused water for some extra taste. Drinking water is a difficult one for me, but I make sure that in addition to my iced teas, I drink water as well during the day.
Indulge Smartly: Savor your favorite treats in moderation. Whether it's a slice of decadent chocolate cake or a scoop of creamy ice cream, giving in to your cravings once in a while is part of living life to the fullest. I always say, if I am celebrating a family members birthday, I will always eat cake. As I stated above in moderation, but there is no real harm if your dietary needs can do it.
Mindful Meals: Slow down and savor each bite. Eating mindfully not only helps with digestion but also allows you to appreciate the flavors and textures of your meals. This is also difficult for me. I always eat like I have to be somewhere, but I am learning to slow down and savor the flavor of the meal.
Laughing Hard: Embracing the Joy
Laughter truly is the best medicine, and it becomes even more potent as we age. Finding humor in everyday situations and seeking opportunities to laugh can have a positive impact on our well-being. Here are some ways to keep the laughter flowing:
Comedy Nights: Gather your friends or loved ones for a night of stand-up comedy or a funny movie. Laughter shared is laughter doubled!
Joke of the Day: Start your morning with a good chuckle by subscribing to a daily joke service or sharing jokes with friends via text or email. You can Google some great daily joke emails to be sent to you or just read Facebook. I get a good laugh from that most days.
Fun with Friends: Plan regular outings with friends to explore new places, take up a fun hobby, or reminisce about the good old days. Friendship and laughter go hand in hand. This is what I like about living in a 55 plus community and being on the Entertainment Committee. We plan lots of fun things and there is always laughter. It is SO IMPORTANT.
Stay Playful: Don't take life too seriously; embrace your inner child and find delight in the little things. Play games, dance, and let go of inhibitions to experience the pure joy of being alive. Having young grandchildren really helps with this. Trying to keep up with them is like running a marathon. I do enjoy getting down with them and acting silly with dance, play and stories.
Savoring the Journey: Embracing Life at Sixty and Beyond
Life after sixty is not about slowing down; it's about embracing the richness of experience and enjoying every moment. Eating well and laughing hard are just two ingredients in the recipe for a fulfilling and satisfying life. Don't be afraid to try new things, stay curious, and continue to learn and grow.
Remember, you've accumulated decades of wisdom and life experience that you can now share with others. Embrace your unique journey, and don't hesitate to mentor and inspire those around you.
So, my dear wise women, let's raise our glasses to sixty, savvy, and savoring – to eating well, laughing hard, and making the most of this remarkable chapter in our lives! Cheers to a life filled with joy, laughter, and delicious adventures!
