Skin Over 50's
This Friday, our Fashion & Beauty topic is Skin Care. Taking proper care of our skin is the most important part of being beautiful. The better we tend to our skin's needs, the more naturally radiant and healthy we can look. As I've grown older, my make-up routine has become less involved – usually just mascara, lip gloss and a hint of highlighter. Rarely do I use foundation, as I want my skin to be unrestricted.
As we get older, the natural moisture in our skin decreases, making it more vulnerable to signs of aging such as wrinkles and dryness. So it’s particularly important for people over 50 to stay hydrated, both by drinking lots of fluids and by applying moisturizers on the outside. Here are some tips for keeping your skin hydrated if you’re above 50:
It's essential to drink lots of water each day—around 8 glasses or more if you exercise regularly or live in a hotter climate.
Eating nutritious foods, such as fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains can help keep your skin healthy.
Applying a moisturizer that is oil-free and non-comedogenic immediately after bathing can lock in moisture to keep your skin soft. To avoid over-drying your skin and causing irritation, use gentle soaps and cleansers formulated for sensitive skin.
It’s important to exfoliate on a regular basis too; however, do it gently as scrubbing too hard can irritate the skin.
Also be sure to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher no matter what the weather is like that day!
Lastly, make sure you get enough sleep for 7-8 hours every night so your skin has time to repair itself.
By following these tips, you can help keep your skin hydrated and looking its best over 50.
